Data Centres

Data centres are critical infrastructure subject to strict physical and technical security requirements – from GDPR and ISO 27001 to the Norwegian National Security Authority (NSM) framework and customer-imposed ISMS requirements. Solid Sikring delivers complete, integrated security installations for Norwegian data centres, co-location facilities and server rooms: from reception access control and technical room security hardware, to Axis cameras in server corridors and Genetec Security Center unifying access control, alarms and CCTV on a single platform. We cover the full scope: risk assessment, specification, project management, installation, documentation and service agreements.

Security challenges at data centres

A data centre is a high-value target: information, hardware and access rights of critical importance are concentrated in one place. Regulatory, customer and insurance requirements are placing ever-increasing demands on documented physical security – and availability is just as critical as confidentiality.

1

Layered access control from lobby to server room

Data centres typically operate with 4–6 security zones: lobby, common area, co-location corridor, customer zone, server corridor and critical equipment room. Each zone requires differentiated access with full traceability. The wrong person in the wrong zone is a serious security breach – both operationally and under GDPR.

2

Authentication and two-factor solutions

A simple card swipe is not sufficient for server room access. Data centres require two-factor authentication – typically card combined with PIN, biometrics (fingerprint or iris) or a mobile app – to ensure only authorised personnel with verified identity can gain entry.

3

CCTV in server corridors

Camera coverage in server corridors is necessary to document who has touched which rack, detect unauthorised presence and investigate incidents. Standard IP cameras are not sufficient – lens, wide-angle coverage, bitrate and storage must be specified for server room conditions.

4

Perimeter security of the building envelope

Data centres are often located in industrial buildings with large plots, multiple entrances and car parks. Perimeter security with fencing, motion sensors, cameras and lighting is necessary for early detection of intrusion risk – and to satisfy insurance requirements.

5

Project management and coordination

Security installation in an operational data centre requires detailed coordination with the operations team, other contractors (cooling, power, IT networking) and maintenance windows for work in critical zones. Poor coordination can cause downtime and, in the worst case, service disruptions.

6

Risk assessment and specification

Without a structured risk assessment and clear specification, data centre projects end up with over- or under-specified security. A correct specification ensures the system satisfies the NSM framework, ISO 27001 physical security requirements, GDPR and customer requirements – and is documentable at audit.

7

Locks, hardware and certified mechanical barriers

Mechanical security barriers are a critical part of the overall security posture. FG-approved locks, certified hardware, security doors and a defined resistance class per zone are necessary to satisfy insurance and regulatory requirements. A robust electronic solution is only as good as the mechanical barrier it protects.

8

Alerting and incident response

Data centres operate 24/7 and may have limited staffing overnight. Alarm and incident management with automatic notification to the operator, guarding company and operations manager – with video confirmation of the alert via Genetec – reduces response time and enables remote verification.

Complete security installations for data centres and server infrastructure

Solid Sikring designs, installs and operates integrated security installations for data centres. We are certified resellers and installation partners for Axis and Genetec, and deliver complete solutions from risk assessment to service agreement.

Genetec Security Center – unified platform

Genetec Security Center is the industry-leading open security platform and is particularly well suited to data centres – where integrated access management, CCTV and alarms must function in a scalable, redundant and audit-ready manner. Combined with Axis cameras at the highest image quality, this combination provides complete coverage of all security zones, automated incident handling and simple export of audit logs. Solid Sikring is a certified partner for both platforms and has experience with complete data centre deliveries.

Axis CCTV – high resolution, scalable

Axis is the world-leading supplier of network cameras and is particularly well positioned for data centres. We specify and install Axis cameras for server corridors (high resolution, good depth of field for rack identification), entrances and receptions (multi-sensor, wide coverage), perimeter (PTZ with zoom, night vision) and technical rooms. All cameras are integrated into Genetec Security Center for centralised management, logging and image archive.

Access control with zone-based access management

We design and install access control systems based on the data centre's zone layout. Differentiated access per employee, role and time period. Two-factor authentication (card + PIN, biometrics or mobile) for critical zones. Visitor management for contractors and guests. Full traceable log of all access events – exportable for NSM, ISO 27001 and GDPR audits. Integration with Genetec Security Center for unified visibility.

Risk assessment and specification

We carry out structured risk assessments based on NSM guidance and ISO 27001 Annex A. We map threats, vulnerabilities and consequences for all physical zones – from the car park and lobby to the server corridor and critical equipment room. The resulting specification forms the basis for all procurement and documentation, and gives the data centre a defensible foundation for customer and regulatory audit.

Perimeter security – physical and technical

Physical perimeter security: fencing, barrier, ANPR licence plate recognition and secured car park. Technical perimeter security: CCTV of building façade and entrance, motion sensors, movement-activated lighting and integrated alarm on perimeter breach. Everything is integrated into Genetec Security Center for centralised alerting and response.

Project management and coordination

Solid Sikring offers dedicated project management for installation in operational data centres. We coordinate all phases: cabling and infrastructure, installation within maintenance windows to minimise operational disruption, FAT/SAT testing, system documentation and training of operations staff. Experience with parallel coordination alongside cooling, power and IT contractors.

Locks, hardware and certified mechanical barriers

We supply and install FG-approved security doors, lock bodies, hardware and cylinder systems for all zones in the data centre. We map the resistance class per zone and recommend the appropriate RC class. We integrate mechanical security with electronic access control – iLOQ, card-based, biometric or a combination. Documentation of all mechanical security is provided for use in insurance and customer audits.

Intruder alarm and incident management

Intruder alarm dimensioned for data centres: fast detection, false alarm minimisation and automatic event correlation with CCTV. Alerting to the duty manager, guarding company and NOC. Integrated into Genetec Security Center for video-verified response. Authorised personnel can confirm and escalate alarms via mobile from anywhere in the world.

Genetec Security Center + Axis

Support businesses and sub-contractors to data centres

Many businesses supply sub-services to data centres – operations, cleaning, catering, electrical power, cooling services, IT security and installation services. Data centre operators are increasingly requiring all sub-contractors to have documented technical and physical security: security vetting of personnel, controlled access to sensitive zones, visitor logging and audit-ready reports. Solid Sikring helps these businesses meet the requirements – whether that means upgrading security at their own premises, establishing access control for their portion of a shared facility, or documenting their security infrastructure for the data centre customer.
