Perimeter Security – Solid Sikring

Perimeter Security

Perimeter security is a property's outermost line of defence – and the first place intruders encounter resistance. Solid Sikring delivers electronic perimeter security with advanced detection technology: thermal cameras, radar, fence sensors, video analytics and Genetec Security Center bringing everything together in one platform. For physical barriers – fencing, barbed wire, anti-ram barriers and secured gate installations – we coordinate delivery via established specialist partners. The result is a comprehensive perimeter system tailored to the actual threat landscape and security level of the site.

Physical and electronic perimeter – two layers that complement each other

Many people think of fencing when they hear perimeter security – and they are right that it is the foundation. But a fence alone does not stop a determined intruder; it is the electronic detection that picks up the attempt and triggers a response. Solid Sikring covers both layers: we specify and coordinate physical barriers suited to the site's security level and insurance requirements (via specialist partners with expertise in fencing, gates and anti-ram protection), and we design, install and operate the electronic detection technology ourselves. Everything feeds into Genetec Security Center for unified operator control, a traceable log and video confirmation of alarms.

Electronic detection technology

We specify and install the detection technology that delivers the lowest false-alarm rate and highest detection rate for your site and threat landscape.

1

Thermal cameras

Axis and other leading thermal cameras detect people and vehicles in darkness, fog, rain and snow. Invisible to intruders and reliant on temperature difference – not visible light. Range from 100 m to over 1 km depending on optics and model.

2

Radar

Radar-based perimeter detection covers large areas – typically 100–500 metres radius – in all weather and lighting conditions. Radar is combined with camera for confirmation: radar detects movement and triggers the camera to zoom in and classify the object. Lowest false-alarm rate of all technologies.

3

Fence sensors

Cable- or fibre-based sensors mounted in the fence detect climbing, cutting, lifting and mechanical manipulation. Zone-based – pinpoints exactly which section of the fence has been disturbed. Combined with a camera this delivers immediate video confirmation of the event.

4

Video analytics and AI classification

Axis Camera Application Platform (ACAP) and Genetec-based video analytics classify objects as person, vehicle, animal or unknown. Dramatically reduces false alarms and enables behaviour-based alerting – e.g. person in a prohibited zone for more than 10 seconds, vehicle travelling the wrong way or person climbing.

5

LiDAR and 3D detection

3D LiDAR sensors create a precise detection field regardless of light or weather. Used in situations where radar generates too many false alarms (e.g. trees in wind) or where accurate positioning is critical. Can be integrated with Genetec for real-time alerting.

6

Drone detection

Modern threats include unauthorised use of drones over secured areas. RF-based drone detectors pick up communication between drone and controller, while radar-based systems detect the flight movement itself. Genetec Security Center can link drone detection to a camera that automatically tracks and records the event.

7

Automatic lighting and speakers

Movement-activated floodlights deter on detection and improve camera images in darkness. Addressed speakers enable live talk-down from an operator or a pre-recorded warning – highly effective as a deterrent and fully documentable.

8

ANPR – licence plate recognition

ANPR cameras at gates and entrances log all vehicles with timestamp. Unknown plates trigger an alarm or stop the barrier. Integrated in Genetec for a unified event log and blacklist check against barrier control.

How we design your perimeter security

We always start with the actual threat landscape and security requirements – not the technology catalogue.

1

Risk assessment and zone mapping

We review the site perimeter, identify access points, sight lines, vegetation and weak zones. We map the threat landscape: opportunistic intrusion, organised crime, sabotage or insider threat. The result is a specification that drives technology and barrier selection.

2

Technology and barrier selection

Based on the specification we select the optimal combination of electronic detection (thermal, radar, fence sensor, LiDAR) and physical barriers (fence class, gate installation, anti-ram protection). Physical barriers are coordinated with a specialist partner with the required expertise.

3

Design and system architecture

We design the detection system: sensor placement, field of view, overlap, cabling and integration with Genetec Security Center or another platform. We coordinate with the physical perimeter contractor for optimal alignment of fence and detection.

4

Installation, calibration and testing

Installation of all detection sensors, cameras and integrations. Careful calibration to minimise false alarms and maximise detection rate. Full FAT/SAT testing with documentation. Training of operator staff.

5

Service agreement and ongoing optimisation

Perimeter systems require periodic recalibration after vegetation growth, snowfall and changes to the threat landscape. We offer a service agreement with scheduled maintenance visits and priority response to incidents.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to the most common questions about this service.

Physical perimeter security consists of the mechanical barriers: fencing, gate installations, bollards and anti-ram protection – they prevent or delay access. Electronic perimeter security is the detection technology: cameras, radar, sensors and video analytics – it detects intruders and raises the alarm. The two layers complement each other: physical barriers stop or delay, electronic detection alerts and documents.

We coordinate and design physical perimeter installations via established specialist partners with expertise in fencing, gate installations and anti-ram protection. We take responsibility for overall project management and the integration between physical and electronic perimeter.

Yes, that is the core capability of professional perimeter security. Thermal cameras detect temperature differences regardless of light – they work equally well at 3 am in heavy snow. Radar is completely independent of weather and visibility. Fence sensors are mechanical and unaffected by weather.

Yes, drones are a real and growing threat – particularly for critical infrastructure, data centres and high-security sites. RF-based drone detectors pick up the communication between drone and controller, while radar detects the flight movement itself. Genetec Security Center can automatically start recording from the nearest PTZ camera and track the drone. We can assist with specification and delivery of drone detection as an integrated part of a perimeter system.

Genetec Security Center is an open security platform that brings cameras, access control, alarms, radar and other perimeter technology together in one interface. For sites with more than simple cameras – where there is a fence alarm, radar, ANPR and access control – an integrated platform like Genetec is a clear advantage: one operator view, one audit log and simple escalation of events.

With the right technology selection and calibration, false alarms are minimised. AI classification in Axis cameras and video analytics reliably distinguishes between people, vehicles and animals. Radar combined with camera verification delivers the lowest false-alarm rate. Good calibration and clearance zones around the fence reduce vegetation issues further.

Energy installations and critical infrastructure, data centres and co-location facilities, ports and ISPS-certified sites, industry with high-value machinery or raw materials, wholesale warehouses and logistics terminals, public buildings with security requirements and commercial properties with insurance or tenant requirements. Solid Sikring has experience with everything from simple commercial sites to complex multi-zone installations.

Physical perimeter

Physical perimeter security – via specialist partners

Solid Sikring specialises in electronic detection, but a good perimeter system starts with physical barriers. Through our network of specialist partners we can coordinate and design complete physical perimeter installations – from simple commercial properties to high-security sites:

Security fencing and barbed wire

Standard commercial fencing through to high-security fencing class 1–5 (to EN 1627 or equivalent security grade requirements). Top security with barbed wire, electric deterrent systems or fence monitoring cable matched to the required security level.

Secured gate installations

Automated barriers and gate installations with integrated access control, ANPR and video entry systems. Designed to handle vehicle traffic efficiently and securely – with controlled opening and emergency override capability.

Anti-ram protection

Bollards, concrete blocks, earth mounds and security hoops protect against vehicle-based attacks. Certified to PAS 68/IWA 14 for critical infrastructure, energy installations, public buildings and data centres. Coordinated via specialist partner.

Clearance zones and vegetation control

Effective perimeter surveillance requires cameras and sensors to remain unobstructed. We specify the required clearance zone and can coordinate establishment and maintenance of vegetation-free zones along the perimeter.

Genetec Security Center

Genetec Security Center – bringing all perimeter detection together

Genetec Security Center is an open security platform that integrates cameras, fence alarms, radar, LiDAR, drone detection, access control and intruder alarms in a single interface. For the operator this means all perimeter events – regardless of sensor type – appear on the same map, with automatic video pop-up for confirmation and one-click escalation. All events are logged automatically and exportable for audit purposes.
